Russell Hay was born in southern Louisiana in the small town of Morgan City. Shortly after he was born, he moved to Houma, LA, about 45 minutes south-west of New Orleans. The rich culture of southern Louisiana helped develop his sense of asthetics, and his appreciation of beauty.
During his formative years, he studied films and movie making, because of his interest in visual expressions of ideas. Toiling in animation and journalism, he was accepted to the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts. While at LSMSA, he developed his passion for computer-aided graphics, and soon started programming DEMOS with a few friends.
All of this interest in visual expression lead him to pick up a camera in 1999. During his initial exploration, he developed a style with uniquely rich and strong empathy. Over the next few years, he became seriously interested in pursuing photography as a career.
After a short stint with a group of photographers in Seattle, WA, he ventured off on his own and soon became a professional photographer.
